Coamo, Puerto Rico La Villa de San Blas de Illescas y Añeja

Called "La Villa Añeja" or "La Villa de San Blas de Illescas", Coamo was founded in 1579 by Cristóbal y Blas de Illescas. The town’s original name was San Blas de Illescas. This town derives its name from a local Indian chief Coamex or Coamey.

Antigue Spanish bridges
These bridges constructed in 1886 and 1876 respectively had their
steel components manufactured in Paris. The
larger bridge (Km 39.2) is known as the Calabazas bridge.

Antiguo Reloj Municipal

This very old Italian made clock was donated to the town by it's first
mayor (Don Florencio Santiago). When inaugurated February 20, 1899
 it was the finest clock in all of Puerto Rico, it sounded on the quarter
hours as well as each hour and another one
minute after the hour (for those who were forgetful).

A historic structure, this is one of the oldest churches in Puerto Rico
 (construction started in 1563). The third Catholic church built on the Island.
