RINCON

Called "Pueblo del Surfing" (surfing town) or
"El Pueblo de los Bellos Atardeceres" (town of beautiful sunsets),
Rincón was founded in 1771 by Luis de Añasco.

Desecheo Island

This reserve is just northwest of Rincón, about 12 miles
out. It has some of the clearest waters and
best diving in Puerto Rico. Snorkelers will
find plenty to see in the shallows.

A beautiful small cove on the southwest corner of
 Desecheo Island sheltering a sandy beach. The rest
of the island drops off straight to the ocean floor.

Whale-Watching

Humpback whales may be seen in the winter from the
observation park at the Rincón Lighthouse. The peak
 season is February, though whales have been spotted
from late December through late March. Just ask around
 the marina or the lighthouse. In the peak season,
you may see them a few hundred meters off the lighthouse.
