2001 Highlights:
Vidro experienced an unforgettable season in what was just his second full campaign at the Major League level... Established himself as one of the best players in the National League and one of the premiere second basemen in the Majors, both offensively and defensively... Batted an extraordinary .331 and finished the campaign with 200 hits, 101 runs, 51 doubles, 24 homers and 97 RBI, all team records for a second baseman... Became just the fourth player in franchise history to reach the 200-hit plateau in a season, falling just four shy of the record while his doubles total is second-best in team history, falling three shy of the mark... Missed four games from September 7-10 due to a partial tear to the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow... Suffered the injury while diving for a ball August 29 vs Arizona... Was sidelined for first time since missing four games from June 3-6 with a sprained middle finger in right hand.
TOP 10: 2nd in the NL in multi-hit games (60) & hits (200) behind Todd Helton (63, 216); 3rd in doubles (51), behind Helton (59) and Jeff Cirillo (53); 5th in home BA (.369) and 6th in BA against lefties (.373); 7th in BA (.331)... Co-led the team in runs (101) and trailed Vladimir in RBI (97) and total bases (327).
ALL STAR: Was selected to participate in his first All-Star Game, becoming the first second baseman in franchise history to make the squad... Went 0-for-1 in the game at Atlanta's Turner Field, pinch-hitting in the 8th inning, before staying in the game at 2B... Made an error in the 9th after mishandling a grounder.
AWARDS: Named the BBWAA Expos player of the month for May after batting .387 (41-for-106) with 11 2B, 3B, 5 HR, 25 RBI in 26 games... Was also named Player of the Month for June after batting .356 (32-for-90) with eight doubles, five HR and 15 RBI and for August after batting .333 (38-for-114) while leading the team in hits (38), homers (7), RBI (18) and runs (21)... Only Vladimir Guerrero (twice in 1998-99), Pedro Martinez (1997), Andres Galarraga (1988) and Tim Raines (1985) have won the monthly award three times in the same season.
200th HIT: Solo homer to left field on September 30 off the Mets Glendon Rusch in the 2nd inning for hit number 2000... Homer was also his 24th of the season and drove in his 101st run... Mets security retrieved the ball from the bleachers... Jose then gave the ball to his grandfather, who was in attendance.
HITS: Rapped out hits number 188 & 189, including his 46th double on September 20 vs the Marlins to establish a career high for doubles and to set a Club record for most hits by a second baseman (Dave Cash in 1977).
HIT MEN: Finished with 200 hits, three more than Vladimir... The 2000 tandem collected 397 hits, setting the franchise record for most hits between two hitters, surpassing the tandem of Al Oliver (204, a club record) and Andre Dawson (183) in 1982.
51st DOUBLE: Connected for his 51st double on September 29 at Shea Stadium off John Franco in the 7th inning... Was his 199th hit of the season and would later score his 100th run on a wild pitch... Pounded out 96 doubles over the last two seasons (45 in 1999).
RBI: Cleared the bases with his 47th double on September 21 vs the Braves Andy Ashby to reach thd 95-RBI plateau.
90 RBI: two-run double off Bruce Chen on September 13 at Philly to reach 90 RBI.
RECORD BOOK: Solo homer off Jose Lima on August 26, his 21st of the season, to add to the Club record for most homers by a 2B.
NO. 20: Two-run homer off Jay Witasick on August 20 at San Diego to tie the Club record for HR by a 2B set by Mike Lansing in 1997.
70 RBI: Two-run homer in the 9th off Octavio Dotel on August 5 at Houston to tie the Club record for most RBI by a 2B (70) set by Lansing in 1997.
DEFENSE: Finished 3rd in the NL with a .986 fielding percentage (10 errors in 712 chances)... Fernando Vina led the league at .988 (7 errors in 593 TC) followed by Jay Bell at .988 (8 in 643)... Made first miscue on May 19, bobbling a ball that first hit pitcher Tony Armas... Was first error since September 24, 1999 vs the Braves, a streak running 44 games, 38 in 2000... Also went 22 games without an error, from May 31-July 1.
FOR OPENERS: Went 3-for-4, with a career-high two stolen bases on April 3 vs L.A. in his second Opening Night start of his career (1998).
4-HITTER: Went 4-for-5, two 2B on April 7 vs San Diego, tying a career high for hits for the fourth time.
WHAT A NIGHT: 3-for-5, two HR, four RBI on April 11 at Pittsburgh for first career two-HR game... Homered in the 3rd (2-run) and 7th (2-run) off Kris Benson.
BACK-TO-BACK: Hit a solo homer in the 5th off Kevin Jarvis on May 1 at Colorado... Was the front end on back-to-back homers with Chris Widger.
4 RUNS: Scored a career-high four runs on May 14 vs the Cubs, going 2-for-4, two BB in a 16-15 win.
DOUBLES: Tied a franchise record on May 17 vs Arizona with three doubles for the 25th time... Was last accomplished on June 14, 1999 at STL (Wilton Guerrero).
SCRATCHED: Was sidelined for four straight games from June 3-6 with a sprained middle finger in his right hand.
STREAKS: Hit safely in a career-high 14 straight games from June 16-July 1, going 21-for-58 (.362), 5 2B, 4 HR, 8 RBI during the run... Also had a 12-game hitting streak from May 1-14 going 20-for-48 (.417), 5 2B, 3 HR, 11 RBI, 5 BB.
SWITCH HR: Became 4th Expo in franchise history to homer from both sides of the plate in the same game July 3 at Atlanta, connecting in the 3rd off Terry Mulholland before homering in 9th off Dave Stevens... Tied a career high for third time this year with four RBI and set a best with four runs scored... Was second career 2-HR game after going 3-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBI April 11 at PIT.
BACK-TO-BACK GAMES: Hit a HR in back-to-back games for third time as he connected for a 2-run homer off San Diego's Jay Witasick on August 20 for his 20th HR of season... Hit a solo HR off San Diego's Donne Wall the previous night... Second time was on June 25 vs the Phillies Paul Byrd and on June 27 vs the Braves Tom Glavine... First time was from May 18-19 against Arizona's Brian Anderson and Houston's Octavio Dotel.
GET IT ON: Reached base safely via a hit or a walk in 24 straight games, from August 18-September 24, going 27-for-85 (.318), 10 2B, 2 HR, 13 RBI, 11 BB.
DEEP UP THE MIDDLE: Vidro and SS Orlando Cabrera both homered twice on July 3 at Atlanta, marking the first time that middle-infielders each homered twice in the same contest since May 7, 1993 when Jeff Blauser and Mark Lemke accomplished the feat vs Colorado... Became the fourth pair in Expos history to do so, first since Chris Widger and Mark Grudzielanek on May 13, 1998 at San Francisco... Jose Vidro became the first Expo to homer from both sides of the plate since F.P. Santangelo on June 7, 1997 vs CHI (Mulholland & Rojas)... The feat was accomplished three times before, all at the Big O.
JAPAN MAN: Joined the caravan of all-stars who toured Japan for Major League Baseball in November, 2000... Closer Ugueth Urbina participated in the Japan exhibition tour in his 1998 All-Star season.

Jose and Annette were married on September 2, 1993 and have a son, Jose, Jr., born on January 7, 1996... Attended Blanco Morales High School in Sabana Grande.
